The riot in England 2011 took place from the sixth of August to the tenth of August, originally beginning in tottenham which is in the north of England, before spreading to other areas if London and then to other cities of England. During the riot many people got hurt and also police officers. Besides, five people lost their live.
The riot started on 6 August 2011 after a peaceful protest in Tottenham, following the
death of Mark Duggan, a man from the area, who was shot dead by police on 4 August 2011.
The police claimed that they acted in self-defense. The police claimed duggan shot at them when they attempted to arrest him. Because they suspected him to deal with drugs. But there is an evidence that just the ammunition of the police was found at that crime scene. So there was no kind of danger for the police and there was no reason to shoot.
The ippc who deals with problems against the police worked on this case. They said that a gun was found in the crime scene, and ammunitions of it. But they belonged to the kind of gun the police uses. Finally,on the 9th of August the ipcc declared that there is no proof duggan shot at the police.
Today the police apologized, to the family for their handling of the situation. That apology comes too late for all those small businesses facing ruin and the scores of people who have lost everything as their homes burned over the following three days of rioting, violence that might have been avoided with a more diplomatic approach.
