Open Question: Small business owner tax question?

Okay, my husband owns a 1/3 of a business with his family. Every year we NEVER get any tax money back and I know its because of the business. He only makes 25,000.00 a year and I am a student. We own a home which has a high loan percantage and we have a child So I know we should be getting some type of refund back.
Is there any way that I can file seperately even though I do not work or any tips from small business owners?
